Tenth Anniversary Concert Series

The Northern Lights Choir is excitedly preparing a lively spring concert displaying the choir’s talent, dedication, and love of music. “This is a very special year for Northern Lights Choir since we are celebrating our 10th season,” says Choral Director Steve Guidone.
Over the years, Northern Lights Choir has explored a wide variety of genres from the Renaissance to present day modern music. Our very first concert series was called Full Spectrum reflecting this broad range of periods and styles. This year’s concert title is the same.

Music selected for our current season has an uplifting theme to give you, our listeners, an opportunity to let go of the stresses of life and be happy, as G.F. Handel encourages us in his lively piece Happy We.

The choir is also learning other new pieces including

  • Claude Debussy’s Salut Printemps, a celebration of spring
  • Rossini’s Carnevale di Venezia,
  • A gorgeous piece by Ola Gjeilo, which happens to have the same name as our choir, Northern Lights.

We won’t tell you all the new songs so you can be surprised. To round out the program we will perform songs that have been audience and choir favourites over the past ten years. Our aim is to delight you and to refresh your spirit.

It has been a tradition to include exceptional local talent in each of our concerts. This year we are delighted to have the talented soprano Andrea Roberts as our guest soloist.
