Northern Light aspires to the highest level of excellence. This means that we require an audition to join the choir. This is not an onerous process but it ensures that each section is strong and together they are balanced.
To schedule an audition please email Norma Jean Gomme.
Audition Materials
- Sing “Oh Canada” unaccompanied in English. Singers are welcome to sing in whichever key best highlights the strength and clarity of their voice 😀
- Sing a short extract of music at sight.
Vocal range and pitch matching activities will be included -see below (3,4) - Sing some simple scales and vocal exercises – thishelps determine vocal range… for example, sing a chromatic scale starting on a comfortable note and progressing for one octave of the scale.
- And the following exercise:
- Echo (sing back) short melodies and rhythmic patterns (sung or played by the piano)
Once the in-person audition is complete, singers will be contacted regarding acceptance into the NLCC. Once acceptance into the program is established, singers will receive ongoing communication about the details of the schedule as we prepare for our early Spring concert.
Our spring concert will be on April 1st, (yes, really) at 7 pm at the Nexus. Admission is by donation.
Rehearsals start Jan. 7th, 7pm at the Nexus.
Fees $80 ($40 for students)
As a chamber ensemble, NLCC requires commitment to rehearsals. Life happens and occasionally gets in the way of attending a rehearsal. This we know only too well! Commitment to rehearsals is the bedrock of a chamber group and is emblematic of our respect for each other and commitment to excellence.
