Our New Director: Zachary Power

Hailing from Chilliwack, Zach graduated from the University of Victoria with his B.Mus. and B.Ed. before moving to Salmon Arm in 2020 with his wonderful and talented wife Julia to begin their music teaching careers.

For the past four years Zach has been working at Salmon Arm Secondary – Sullivan campus, and North Shuswap Elementary where he has started the Sullivan R&B Band and the North Shuswap Choir, as well as helping grow the Sullivan Choir.

Prior to his tenure in Salmon Arm, he studied choral conducting under Madeleine Humer, Richard Nace, and Dr. Geoffrey Boers. During his time in Victoria, Zach was a choral scholar at Christ Church Cathedral, an assistant conductor of the Victoria Arion Male Choir, the interim conductor of the 2017 BC Youth Choir, and BC’s tenor representative in the 2018 National Youth Choir’s tour of Newfoundland.

This year Zach is continuing to study and compose choral music as well as starting a youth choir (ages 13-25) for the North Okanagan/Shuswap area and directing the Shuswap String Orchestra. When not immersed in music, he can be found on the streets of Victoria as a walking tour guide telling ghost stories.

Zach is thrilled to be directing the Northern Lights Chamber Choir after being a member for the past two seasons and hopes this year will be full of musical delights for NLCC’s members and audiences. We are thrilled, too, Zach.
